Indications
- Perennial allergic rhinitis
- Seasonal allergic rhinitis
- Chronic idiopathic urticaria
Pharmacology
- Contains Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride
- Levocetirizine is the active (Levo) isomer of cetirizine
- Highly effective and well-tolerated nonsedating antihistamine with potent antiallergic properties
- Two-fold higher affinity for H1 receptors than cetirizine
- Rapid and long-acting action allowing once-a-day administration
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dose for adults and children 12 years of age and older: 5 mg once daily
- Recommended dose for children 6 to 11 years of age: 2.5 mg once daily
- Recommended dose for children 6 months to 5 years of age: 1.25 mg once daily
- Recommended dose for pediatric use based on extrapolation of efficacy from adults
- Information on geriatric use, hepatic impairment, and renal impairment
Interaction
- No known interactions with other drugs
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to levocetirizine, cetirizine, or hydroxyzine
- Patients with severe renal impairment should not be administered levocetirizine
Side Effects
- Well tolerated with rare reports of headache, dry mouth, fatigue, and skin rash
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category B
- Not recommended for use by nursing mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- Epileptic patients and patients at risk of convulsions should take precautions
- Special considerations for patients with renal impairment, pregnancy, and lactation
Overdose Effects
- No clinically relevant adverse events reported in case of overdose
- Recommendation for symptomatic and supportive treatment in case of overdosage
