- Orva 10 mg Tablet is used to reduce elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B (Apo-B) and triglycerides levels in patients with certain diseases when response to diet and other non-pharmacological measures is inadequate.

Indications

- Used for familial hypercholesterolaemia, mixed dyslipidemia, hypertriglyceridaemia, dysbetalipoproteinaemia, and coronary artery disease with elevated LDL-cholesterol level
Pharmacology
- Selective inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase
- Lowers plasma cholesterol and lipoprotein levels
- Enhances uptake and catabolism of LDL
- Rapidly absorbed after oral administration
- Metabolized to ortho- and parahydroxylated derivatives
- Eliminated primarily in bile
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage range: 10-80 mg once daily
- Initial 10 mg dose for children (10-18 years)
- Dose adjustments based on lipid levels
- Analysis of lipid levels within 2 to 4 weeks after initiation
Interaction
- Increased risk of myopathy with concurrent administration of certain drugs
- Plasma concentrations affected when coadministered with antacid, colestipol, digoxin, erythromycin, oral contraceptives
- No clinically significant effect on prothrombin time when administered to patients receiving chronic warfarin treatment
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component of this medication
- Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminases
- History of serious adverse reaction to prior administration of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors
