Indications
- Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis
- Relief of symptoms associated with chronic idiopathic urticaria
- Relief of sneezing, nasal discharge, itching, and congestion
- Relief of ocular itching, tearing, and redness
- Relief of itching of palate and coughing
- Relief of itching and the size & number of hives
Pharmacology
- Desloratadine as the major active metabolite of Loratadine
- Non-sedating long-acting tricyclic histamine antagonist
- Selective H1-receptor histamine antagonist activity
- Inhibition of histamine release from human mast cell
Dosage & Administration
- Pediatric drops for children 6-11 months of age
- Pediatric drops for children 1-2 years of age
- Syrup for children 6-11 months, 1-5 years, and 6-11 years of age, and adults & >12 years of age
- Tablet for adults and children 12 years of age and over

- No clinically relevant drug interactions reported
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to the medication or its ingredients
Side Effects
- Less common side effects including headache, nausea, fatigue, dizziness, pharyngitis, dyspepsia, and myalgia
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category C
- Safe use during pregnancy not established
- Use during pregnancy only if clearly indicated
- Passes into breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Recommended starting dose for adult patients with liver or renal impairment
- Starting dose of one 5 mg tablet every other day for patients with liver or renal impairment
- Caution for patients with medical or familial history of seizures
