Description

DosageAndAdministration

  • Adult dosage: 10-80 mg once daily
  • Child dosage: 10-20 mg once daily

Pharmacology

  • Selective inhibition of HMG-CoA reductase
  • Lowers plasma cholesterol and lipoprotein levels
  • Increases hepatic LDL receptors for enhanced uptake

Interaction

  • Concurrent administration increase myopathy risk
  • Interacts with antacid, colestipol, digoxin, erythromycin, oral contraceptives, warfarin

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to any component
  • Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminases
  • History of serious adverse reaction to prior administration of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors
