Indications

  • Symptomatic treatment of Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis
  • Symptomatic treatment of Perennial Allergic Rhinitis
  • Symptomatic treatment of Urticaria

Pharmacology

  • Long-acting non-sedative antagonist of histamine H1-receptors
  • Antagonizes platelet activating factor (PAF)
  • Better therapeutic effect than isolated antihistamine
  • Inhibition of mast cell degranulation
  • Inhibition of cytokine release

Dosage & Administration

  • Adults and adolescents (over 12 years): Recommended dose is 10 mg once a day
  • Children aged 2 to 11 years:
    • Children weighing 25 kg or more: 1 teaspoonful (5 ml) of the oral solution once daily
    • Children weighing equal or more than 10 kg to less than 25 kg: 1/2 teaspoonful (2.5 ml) oral solution once daily

Interaction

  • With medicine:
    • Increased systemic exposure with ketoconazole or erythromycin
    • Caution when administered with CYP3A4 inhibitors, statins, CNS depressants, or alcohol
  • With food: Grapefruit and Grapefruit juice should not be taken simultaneously

  • Children: Not established in patients less than 12 years of age
  • Patients with renal or hepatic insufficiency: Not recommended

Symptomatic treatment for accidental ingestion of very high doses
