Indications
- Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis
- Perennial Allergic Rhinitis

Pharmacology
- Long-acting
- Non-sedative antagonist of histamine H1-receptors
- Antagonizes platelet activating factor (PAF)
- Dual mode of action
- Inhibition of degranulation of mast cells
- Inhibition of release of cytokines
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dose for Adults and adolescents: 10 mg once a day
- Recommended dose for Children aged 2 to 11 years
- Can be taken with or without food
Interaction
- Concomitant administration with ketoconazole or erythromycin increases systemic exposure
- Caution with statins, CNS depressants, or alcohol
- Not to be taken with grapefruit or grapefruit juice
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Rupatadine or excipients
Side Effects
- Common: Asthenia, dizziness, drowsiness
- Uncommon: Appetite increased, arthralgia, back pain
- Rare: Palpitations, tachycardia
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended during pregnancy
- Not recommended during lactation unless benefits outweigh risks
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with caution in patients with known prolongation of the QT interval
- Use with caution in elderly patients
- Not recommended in patients with impaired kidney or liver function
Use in Special Populations
- Caution in elderly
- Safety and efficacy not established in patients less than 12 years of age
- Not recommended in patients with renal or hepatic insufficiency
Overdose Effects
- Most common adverse reaction: Somnolence
- Symptomatic treatment required for accidental ingestion of very high doses
