Description
- Stacor is a selective inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase used to reduce elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, and triglycerides levels in various diseases when response to diet and other non-pharmacological measures is inadequate.
DosageAndAdministration
- Adults: Usually 10 mg once daily; maximum 80 mg once daily. Child (10-18 years): Initially 10 mg once daily, increased if necessary at intervals of at least 4 weeks to usual max. 20 mg once daily.
Indications
- To reduce total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol in patients with heterozygous and homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia.
Pharmacology
- Selective inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase responsible for the conversion of HMG-CoA to mevalonate, a precursor of sterols, including cholesterol.
Interaction
- Increased risk of myopathy with concurrent administration of cyclosporine, fibric acid derivatives, niacin, erythromycin, azole antifungals.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component, active liver disease, unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminases, history of serious adverse reaction to prior administration of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors.

- Constipation, flatulence, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, infection, headache, back pain, rash, asthenia, arthralgia, myalgia.
