Calamine 15%+5%+5% (Lotion)

Indications

• Relieves pain, itching, and discomfort from poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac
• Helps to dry the oozing and weeping caused by skin irritation

Pharmacology

• Calamine has mild astringent and antipruritic actions
• Zinc oxide has astringent, soothing and protective properties
• Used in topical preparations for eczema, excoriations, wounds, and haemorrhoids
• Reflects ultraviolet radiation and can be used as a physical sunscreen

Dosage

• Adult: Apply 3-4 times daily for 3-5 days

Administration

• For external use on the skin only
• Follow all directions on the product package
• Shake the bottle well before using
• Apply the medication with a cotton pad

Interaction

• No known drug interactions for calamine/ zinc oxide topical

Contraindications

• History of hypersensitivity to any of the components

Side Effects

• Rare but may include serious allergic reactions such as rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, and trouble breathing

Pregnancy & Lactation

• FDA has not classified the drug into a specified pregnancy category

• Not to be used on open wounds or burns

• Pediatrics: No appropriate studies on the relationship of age to the effects of calamine have been performed
• Geriatrics: No appropriate studies on the relationship of age to the effects of calamine have been performed
