Indications
- Treatment of topical bacterial infections
- Effective in atopic, contact stasis and infections
- Useful as an adjunct in certain pyodermas
- Treatment of eczematoid dermatitis, neurodermatitis, eczema, anogenital pruritus
Pharmacology
- Bacitracin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis
- Effective against gram-positive and some gram-negative bacteria
- Neomycin binds to the bacterial ribosome, inhibiting protein synthesis
Dosage & Administration
- Ointment to be applied 2-3 times daily after cleaning the affected area
- Dusting Powder for superficial skin infections, applied up to 4 times daily
Interaction
- Bacitracin Zinc increased risk of nephrotoxicity with other nephrotoxic drugs
- Neomycin Sulphate additive nephrotoxic and neurotoxic effect with certain drugs
- Inhibition of absorption of other drugs
- Enhancement of certain drug effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any of its components

- Generally well tolerated
- Rare cases of allergic reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Safe use not established during pregnancy & lactation
- Use during pregnancy if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid use on large open wounds or severely injured skin
- Avoid use on areas exuding large volumes of fluid
- Avoid use on perforated eardrum
- Consult physician for deep or puncture wounds, animal bites, or serious burns
- Discontinue use and consult a physician if condition persists or worsens
Use in Special Populations
- Suitable for use in children at same dose as adults
- Dose should be reduced in infants
- Not recommended for use in neonates
