Pharmacology
- Bacitracin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis
- Active against gram-positive bacteria
- Active against some gram-negative species
- Neomycin binds to bacterial ribosome
- Inhibits protein synthesis
- Active against gram-negative aerobes
- Active against some strains of staphylococci
Dosage & Administration
- Ointment for topical application
- Clean area before application
- Apply 2-3 times daily
- Dusting powder for superficial skin infections
- Apply light dusting up to 4 times daily
Interaction
- Bacitracin Zinc may enhance neuromuscular-blocking agents
- Neomycin Sulphate has additive nephrotoxic and neurotoxic effects
- May impair absorption of other drugs
- May alter INR when given with anticoagulants
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any components

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Safe use during pregnancy and lactation not established
- Use during pregnancy if benefit justifies potential risk to fetus
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid use on large open wounds or severely injured skin
- Avoid use on areas exuding large volumes of fluid
- Avoid use for otitis external with perforated eardrum
- Consult physician for deep or puncture wounds, animal bites, or serious burns
- Discontinue use and consult physician if condition persists or worsens
- Not recommended for use in neonates
Use in Special Populations
- Suitable for use in children at adult dose
- Dose should be reduced in infants
- Not recommended for neonates
