Pharmacology

  • Bacitracin inhibits Bacterial Cell Wall Synthesis
  • Active Against Gram-positive Bacteria
  • Neomycin binds to Bacterial Ribosome, Inhibiting Protein Synthesis

Dosage & Administration

  • Ointment: Clean area before application, apply 2-3 times daily
  • Dusting Powder: Apply up to 4 times daily on affected area

Interaction

  • Bacitracin Zinc may interact with Nephrotoxic Drugs and Neuromuscular-blocking Agents
  • Neomycin Sulphate may have Additive Nephrotoxic and Neurotoxic Effects with other Aminoglycosides and enhance the effects of certain drugs

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to any of its components

Precautions & Warnings

  • Should not be used on large open wounds or severely injured skin
  • Avoid use for otitis external with perforated eardrum
  • Consult physician for deep wounds, animal bites or burns
  • Discontinue use if condition persists or worsens

Use in Special Populations

  • Suitable for use in Children at reduced dose, Not recommended for neonates
