Indications
- Topical prophylaxis against bacterial colonization and infection in burn wounds
- Topical antibacterial management of contaminated or infection-prone wounds
MechanismOfAction
- Structural changes in bacterial cell membrane
- Weakening of the cell wall membrane
- Reduced viability in sensitive strains
- Silver moiety binding to bacterial cells and DNA
- Sulfadiazine moiety providing bacteriostatic action
DosageAndAdministration
- Apply once to twice daily
- Thickness of approximately 1/16 inches or 1.5 mm
- Reapplication after patient activity
- Use dressings if necessary
- Reapply immediately after hydrotherapy
- Continue treatment until satisfactory healing occurs
Interaction
- Inactivation of enzymatic debriding agents
- Potentiation of oral hypoglycemic agents and phenytoin
- Possible increase in leukopenia incidence with cimetidine co-administration
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the ingredients
- Pregnant women approaching or at term
- Premature infants
- Newborn infants during the first 2 months of life
