Indications
- Treatment of fungal infections of the ear
Description
- Broad-spectrum antifungal agent
- Treatment of dermal infections caused by various species of pathogenic dermatophytes, yeasts, and Malassezia furfur
- Inhibits ergosterol synthesis
- Antibacterial activity
Pharmacology
- Fights fungi and yeasts by interfering with their cell membranes
- Stops the production of ergosterol
- Increased membrane permeability and leakage of essential constituents of the fungal cells
Dosage & Administration
- Instill 2-3 drops in the affected ear
- Two or three times daily
- Treatment should be continued for at least two weeks after the disappearance of all signs of infection
Interaction
- Reports of a heat reaction when used concomitantly with Sofradex drops in the ear
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any of its components
Side Effects
- Erythema
- Stinging
- Edema
- Pruritus
- General irritation
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Recommended during pregnancy only after consulting a doctor
- No risk for the infant during lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Consider withdrawal if local intolerance develops
- Not intended for ophthalmic use
Overdose Effects
- Supportive measures should be taken in case of accidental oral ingestion
