Description
- Broad-spectrum antifungal agent
- Treatment of dermal infections caused by dermatophytes, yeasts, moulds, and bacteroids
- Active against certain gram-positive bacteria, especially Staphylococci and Tricomonas
- Alters permeability of fungal cell walls
- Inhibition of ergosterol synthesis
- Additional mechanism of membrane damage at higher concentrations
Pharmacology
- Damages the permeability barrier in the cell membrane of fungi
- Inhibition of ergosterol biosynthesis
- Inhibits construction of intact and functional cell membrane
- Inhibition of lanosterol 14-demethylase (CYP51)
- Depletion of intracellular calcium
- Blocking of calcium-dependent potassium channels and voltage-dependent calcium channels
