Description
- Broad-spectrum antifungal agent
- Used for the treatment of dermal infections caused by various species of pathogenic dermatophytes, yeasts, moulds, and bacteroids
- Active against gram-positive bacteria especially Staphylococci and Tricomonas
- Alters the permeability of fungal cell walls by interfering with cell wall lipids
- Inhibition of ergosterol synthesis
- Causes membrane damage unrelated to sterol synthesis
Pharmacology
- Damages the permeability barrier in the cell membrane of fungi
- Inhibition of ergosterol biosynthesis
- Inhibition of lanosterol 14-demethylase
- Depletion of intracellular calcium
- Blocking of calcium-dependent potassium channels and voltage-dependent calcium channels
- Dose-dependent inhibition of fungal growth
