Indications
- Dermatomycoses due to dermatophytes
- Dermatomycoses due to yeasts (Candida species)
- Dermatomycoses due to moulds and other fungi
- Skin diseases showing superinfections with these fungi
- Interdigital mycoses (e.g. athlete's foot)
- Paronychias (associated with nail mycoses)
- Mycoses in skin folds
- Candida vulvitis
- Candida balanitis
- Pityriasis versicolor
- Erythrasma
Description
- Broad-spectrum antifungal agent
- Treatment of dermal infections
- Active against various species of pathogenic dermatophytes, yeasts, moulds and bacteroids
- Active against certain gram-positive bacteria especially Staphylococci and Tricomonas
- Alters the permeability of fungal cell walls
- Inhibition of ergosterol synthesis
- Additional mechanism of membrane damage unrelated to sterol synthesis
Pharmacology
- Damages the permeability barrier in the cell membrane of fungi
- Causes inhibition of ergosterol biosynthesis
- Rapid onset of events leads to dose-dependent inhibition of fungal growth
- Inhibits sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca+ ATPase
- Depletes intracellular calcium
- Blocks calcium-dependent potassium channels and voltage-dependent calcium channels
Dosage & Administration
- Thinly applied 2-3 times daily to the infected sites
- Rubbed in thoroughly
- Recommended duration of treatment for various conditions
- Application in fungal infection of the feet
- Odorless, can be washed off and does not stain clothing
- Topical solution to be applied sparingly and rubbed in gently
