Indications

• Treatment of scabies infestations
• Treatment of crab lice infestations

Pharmacology

• Contains Permethrin, a pyrethroid
• Acts on nerve cell membrane to disrupt sodium channel current
• Causes delayed repolarization & paralysis of pests

Pharmacokinetics

• Topical route is the only approved route of administration
• Less than 0.5% of applied permethrin is absorbed during the first 48 hours
• Metabolized by ester hydrolysis in the liver

Dosage

• Recommended duration of treatment for different age groups

Administration

• Instructions for clean, cool, and dry skin before application
• Application guidance for different age groups
• Recommendation to leave cream on for at least 8 hours

Interaction

• Warning against using corticosteroids for eczemodous like reactions prior to treatment with Licerin

Contraindications

• Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to pyrethroids or permethrin
• Recommendation for nursing staff to wear gloves

Side Effects

• Possible skin discomfort after application
• Transient signs and symptoms of irritation

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Use in pregnancy should follow medical advice
• Not recommended for nursing mothers

Precautions & Warnings

• Possibility of exacerbating pruritus, edema & erythema associated with scabies infestation
