Indications
- Treatment of scabies
- Treatment of crab lice infestations
- Suitable for family-wide treatment
Pharmacology
- Contains Permethrin, a pyrethroid
- Acts on the nerve cell membrane
- Disrupts the sodium channel current
- Leads to delayed repolarization and paralysis of pests
- Limited systemic exposure or kinetics through topical administration
- Presystemic metabolism in skin
- Less than 0.5% absorption in the first 48 hours
- Rapid metabolism by ester hydrolysis
- Excreted primarily in urine
Dosage
- Full tube for adults and children over 12 years
- Up to 1⁄2 of a tube for children aged 6-12 years
- Up to 1⁄4 of a tube for children aged 1-5 years
- Up to 1⁄8 of a tube for children aged 2 months to 1 year
- Dose not established for children less than 2 months
Administration
- Apply to clean, cool, and dry skin
- Avoid hot shower or bath before application
- Apply to whole body from neck down for adults and children over 2 years
- Include all skin surfaces, such as between fingers and toes, under nails, and soles of feet
- Apply to face, neck, ears, and scalp for babies under 2 years, avoiding eye and mouth areas
- Leave cream on for at least 8 hours before washing off
- Reapply to washed areas during treatment time
- Reapply after 7 days if necessary as per doctor's advice
Interaction
- Withhold corticosteroid treatment for eczematous reactions prior to Noscab use to avoid exacerbating scabies infestation
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to pyrethroids or permethrin components
- Nursing staff may wear gloves to avoid potential hand irritation
Side Effects
- Skin discomfort (burning, stinging, tingling)
- Transient signs of irritation (erythema, edema, eczema, rash, pruritus)
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Use in pregnancy should follow medical advice
- Not recommended for nursing mothers due to unknown excretion in human milk
Precautions & Warnings
- May temporarily exacerbate pruritus, edema, and erythema associated with scabies infestation
- Avoid contact with eyes during application
- Flush with water immediately if cream gets in the eyes
