Indications

• Treatment of scabies
• Treatment of crab lice infestations
• Suitable for family-wide treatment

Pharmacology

• Contains Permethrin, a pyrethroid
• Topical scabicidal agent
• Acts on nerve cell membrane to disrupt sodium channel current
• Causes delayed repolarization & paralysis of pests

Pharmacokinetics

• Topical route of administration
• Limited systemic exposure or kinetics data
• Presystemic metabolism occurs in skin
• Less than 0.5% absorbed in first 48 hours
• Metabolized by ester hydrolysis in the liver
• Excreted primarily in urine

Dosage

• Recommended duration of treatment based on age groups

Administration

• Instructions for application on different age groups
• Advises to leave cream on for at least 8 hours before washing off

Interaction

• Risk of exacerbating scabies infestation with corticosteroids for eczemodous like reactions

Contraindications

• Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to pyrethroids or permethrin
• Nursing staff may wear gloves to avoid possible irritation

Side Effects

• Skin discomfort (burning, stinging, tingling)
• Transient irritation symptoms (erythema, edema, eczema, rash, pruritis)

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Use in pregnancy should follow medical advice due to lack of specific studies
• Not recommended for nursing mothers due to unknown excretion in human milk

Precautions & Warnings

• May temporarily exacerbate pruritus, edema & erythema
• Instructions to avoid eye contact during application
