Pesimex 5% w/w (Cream)

Indications

• Treatment of scabies
• Treatment of crab lice infestations
• Suitable for all family members

Pharmacology

• Contains Permethrin, a pyrethroid
• Topical scabicidal agent
• Disrupts sodium channel current
• Causes delayed repolarization and paralysis of pests

Dosage

• Adults and children over 12 years: a full tube
• Children aged 6-12 years: up to 1/2 of a tube
• Children aged 1-5 years: up to 1/4 of a tube
• Children aged 2 months to 1 year: up to 1/8 of a tube

Administration

• Apply to clean, cool, and dry skin
• Do not have a hot shower or bath before applying
• Leave on for at least 8 hours before washing off
• Reapply to any area that may be washed during the 8h treatment time

Interaction

• Corticosteroid treatment for eczema-like reactions should be withheld prior to Pesimex treatment

Contraindications

• Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to pyrethroids or permethrin
• Nursing staff may wear gloves during application to avoid possible irritation to the hands

Side Effects

• Skin discomfort like burning, stinging, or tingling
• Transient signs and symptoms of irritation including erythema, edema, eczema, rash, and pruritus

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Use in pregnancy should follow medical advice
• Not recommended for nursing mothers due to unknown excretion in human milk

Precautions & Warnings

• May temporarily exacerbate existing conditions like pruritus, edema, and erythema
• Avoid contact with eyes during application
• Flush with water immediately if cream gets in the eyes
