Indications
- Treatment of scabies
- Treatment of crab lice infestations
Pharmacology
- Contains Permethrin, a pyrethroid
- Acts on the nerve cell membrane
- Disrupts sodium channel current
- Causes delayed repolarization & paralysis of pests
Dosage
- Adult dose: full tube
- Children 6-12 years: up to 1/2 tube
- Children 1-5 years: up to 1/4 tube
- Children 2 months to 1 year: up to 1/8 tube
Administration
- Apply to clean, cool, dry skin
- Rub lightly into the skin
- Include all skin surfaces
- Leave on for at least 8 hours
Interaction
- Avoid corticosteroids for eczemodous reactions
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to pyrethroids or permethrin
- Nursing staff to wear gloves
Side Effects
- Burning, stinging, tingling
- Irritation, erythema, edema, rash, pruritus
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Use in pregnancy only with medical advice
- Not recommended for nursing mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- May temporarily exacerbate pruritus, edema & erythema
- Avoid contact with eyes
- Flush with water if cream gets in eyes
