Indications
- Treatment of scabies
- Treatment of crab lice infestations
- Family-wide treatment for scabies
Pharmacology
- Contains Permethrin, a pyrethroid
- Topical scabicidal agent
- Acts on nerve cell membrane
- Disrupts sodium channel current
- Causes delayed repolarization and paralysis of pests
- Limited systemic exposure
- Rapid metabolism and excretion
Dosage
- Full tube for adults and children over 12 years
- Up to 1/2 of a tube for children aged 6-12 years
- Up to 1/4 of a tube for children aged 1-5 years
- Up to 1/8 of a tube for children aged 2 months to 1 year
- Dose not established for children less than 2 months
Administration
- Apply to clean, cool, and dry skin
- Avoid hot shower or bath before application
- Apply to the whole body from the neck down
- Include all skin surfaces
- Leave on for at least 8 hours before washing off
- Reapply if necessary after 7 days
Interaction
- Withhold corticosteroid treatment for eczemodous like reactions prior to Skilin use
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to pyrethroids or permethrin
- Use gloves to avoid irritation for nursing staff
Side Effects
- Skin discomfort like burning, stinging, or tingling
- Transient signs of irritation like erythema, edema, eczema, rash, and pruritis
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Use in pregnancy only under medical advice
- Avoid use in nursing mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- May exacerbate pruritus, edema, and erythema temporarily
- Avoid contact with eyes during application and flush with water if contact occurs
