Indications
- Treatment of superficial infections
- Treatment of burns
- Regeneration of new skin in wounds and ulceration
- Treatment of otitis externa
- Treatment of postoperative infections
- Treatment of neuro-dermatitis and eczema
- Adjunct to systemic steroid therapy in pyoderma
Pharmacology
- Active topical corticosteroid (betamethasone)
- Broad-spectrum bactericidal amino-glycoside (neomycin sulfate)
- Effective against gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens
- Effective penetration and uniform distribution capacity
- Effective for wet ulceration of the skin
Dosage & Administration
- Application to affected parts of the skin as a thin layer 3 to 4 times daily (adults)
- Gradual withdrawal of treatment in chronic conditions
- Do not use on children under 1 year of age
- Maximum course of treatment for a child is 5 days
Interaction
- No significant drug interactions reported
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any of its components
- Not for use in otitis externa with perforated eardrum
- Not for use in skin lesions caused by viruses and fungi
Side Effects
- Well-tolerated at normal doses
- Prolonged and high doses may cause Cushing's syndrome, acne, thinning and dilatation of blood vessels
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not for extensive use in pregnancy
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid long-term continuous therapy to prevent resistance
- Use accurate dose in infected areas only
