Pharmacology
- Very potent topical corticosteroid
- Anti-inflammatory
- Antipruritic
- Vasoconstrictive
- Inhibits late phase allergic reactions
- Decreases mast cell density
- Reduces cytokine production
Dosage
- Twice daily application for adults, elderly and children over 1 year
- Enhanced effect with occlusion
- Limited to 2 consecutive weeks
- Maximum weekly dose of 50 gm/week
- Limited usage in children and adolescents

Interaction
Inhibition of CYP3A4 metabolism by co-administered drugs
Contraindications
- Rosacea, acne vulgaris, perioral dermatitis
- Primary cutaneous viral infections
- Hypersensitivity to the preparation
- Not indicated for infected skin lesions in children under 1 year
Side Effects
- Hypercorticism with prolonged use
- Local atrophic changes in the skin
- Pustular form of psoriasis in rare instances
- Pigmentation changes and hypertrichosis
Pregnancy & Lactation
Limited data on use in pregnant women
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid long-term continuous therapy, especially in infants and children
- Atrophic changes in the face with prolonged use
- Avoid application to the eyelids
- Hazardous use in psoriasis
