Composition

• Clobetasol Propionate Cream
• Clobetasol Propionate Ointment
• Clobetasol Propionate Scalp Application
• Clobetasol Propionate Shampoo
• Clobetasol Propionate Lotion
• Clobetasol Propionate Spray
• Clobetasol Propionate BP 0.5 mg (0.05% w/w)

Pharmacology

• Very potent topical corticosteroid
• Anti-inflammatory
• Antipruritic
• Vasoconstrictive
• Inhibits late phase allergic reactions
• Decreases mast cell density
• Reduces cytokine production

Dosage

• Twice daily application for adults, elderly and children over 1 year
• Enhanced effect with occlusion
• Limited to 2 consecutive weeks
• Maximum weekly dose of 50 gm/week
• Limited usage in children and adolescents

Interaction

Inhibition of CYP3A4 metabolism by co-administered drugs

Contraindications

• Rosacea, acne vulgaris, perioral dermatitis
• Primary cutaneous viral infections
• Hypersensitivity to the preparation
• Not indicated for infected skin lesions in children under 1 year

Side Effects

• Hypercorticism with prolonged use
• Local atrophic changes in the skin
• Pustular form of psoriasis in rare instances
• Pigmentation changes and hypertrichosis

Pregnancy & Lactation

Limited data on use in pregnant women

Precautions & Warnings

• Avoid long-term continuous therapy, especially in infants and children
• Atrophic changes in the face with prolonged use
• Avoid application to the eyelids
• Hazardous use in psoriasis
