Excretion

  • Mean plasma elimination half-life of approximately 14 hours

Interaction

  • Concurrent administration with cyclosporine, fibric acid derivatives, or erythromycin increases risk of myopathy
  • Altered plasma concentrations with coadministration of antacid
  • Increased digoxin concentrations with coadministration of atorvastatin
  • Coadministration with oral contraceptives may increase AUC values for certain hormones

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to any component of the medication
  • Active liver disease
  • Unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminases
  • History of serious adverse reaction to prior administration of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors
