Indications
- For adults, elderly, and children over 1 year
- Indicated for psoriasis (excluding widespread plaque psoriasis)
- Indicated for recalcitrant dermatoses
- Indicated for lichen planus
- Indicated for discoid lupus erythematosus
- Suitable for other skin conditions not responding satisfactorily to less potent steroids
Composition
- Clobetasol Propionate Cream: 0.05% w/w

Pharmacology
- Very potent topical corticosteroid
- Has anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive properties
- Shows anti-inflammatory activity via multiple mechanisms
- Decreases mast cell density and eosinophil activation
- Reduces cytokine production and inhibits arachidonic acid metabolism
Dosage
- Apply a thin layer twice daily for adults, elderly, and children over 1 year
- Recommended dosage limits for super-high potency topical corticosteroids
- Suggested dosage for spray and shampoo
- Route of administration: cutaneous
Administration
- Creams suitable for moist or weeping surfaces
- Ointments suitable for dry, lichenified, or scaly lesions
Interaction
- Potential inhibition of metabolism by co-administered drugs
Contraindications
- Not indicated for rosacea, acne vulgaris, and perioral dermatitis
- Hypersensitivity to the preparation
- Not indicated for primarily infected skin lesions caused by fungi or bacteria
- Not for use in children under one year of age
Side Effects
- Prolonged use can result in systemic absorption and hypercorticism features
- Prolonged and intensive treatment may cause local atrophic changes
- Rare instances of provoking pustular form of psoriasis
- Reports of pigmentation changes and hypertrichosis
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Limited data from use in pregnant women
- Topical administration to pregnant animals can cause foetal abnormalities
- Caution advised during lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Long-term continuous therapy should be avoided, particularly in infants and children
- Atrophic changes possible after prolonged treatment on the face
- Care needed to prevent entry into the eye if applied to the eyelids
- Hazardous in psoriasis for various reasons
- Anti-microbial therapy recommended for treating inflammatory lesions
Use in Special Populations
- Adrenal suppression risk in infants and children under 12 years
Overdose Effects
- Acute overdosage occurrence very unlikely
- In case of chronic over-dosage, hypercortisolism features may occur
