Indications
- Psoriasis (excluding widespread plaque psoriasis)
- Recalcitrant dermatoses
- Lichen planus
- Discoid lupus erythematosus
- Other skin conditions which do not respond satisfactorily to less potent steroids

Pharmacology
- Anti-inflammatory
- Antipruritic
- Vasoconstrictive
- Inhibits late phase allergic reactions
- Decreases mast cell density
- Inhibits cytokine production

- Limited to 2 consecutive weeks
- Maximum weekly dose of 50 gm/week
- Limited courses for children
- Not recommended for under 18 years

- Appropriate for moist or weeping surfaces
- Appropriate for dry, lichenified or scaly lesions
Interaction
- Inhibition of CYP3A4 metabolism
Contraindications
- Rosacea
- Acne vulgaris
- Perioral dermatitis
- Primary cutaneous viral infections (e.g. herpes simplex, chickenpox)
- Hypersensitivity to the preparation
- Not indicated in fungal or bacterial infections
- Dermatoses in children under one year of age

Pregnancy & Lactation

- Potential atrophic changes on the face
- Avoid eye contact
- Hazardous in psoriasis
- Appropriate antimicrobial therapy
