Composition
- Clobetasol Propionate Cream: 0.5 mg (0.05% w/w)
- Clobetasol Propionate Ointment: 0.5 mg (0.05% w/w)
- Clobetasol Propionate Scalp Application: 0.5 mg (0.05% w/w)
- Clobetasol Propionate Shampoo: 0.5 mg (0.05% w/w)
- Clobetasol Propionate Lotion: 0.5 mg (0.05% w/w)
- Clobetasol Propionate Spray: 0.5 mg (0.05% w/w)
Pharmacology
Potent topical corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive properties
Dosage
- Apply a thin layer of cream or ointment twice daily
- Super-high potency; treatment limited to 2 consecutive weeks
- Apply required quantity of spray once or twice daily to affected areas of the scalp
- Shampoo application to affected areas once a day
- Total dosage of shampoo should not exceed 50g per week
Administration
Cutaneous route; creams for moist or weeping surfaces, ointments for dry, lichenified, or scaly lesions
Interaction
Co-administered drugs inhibiting CYP3A4 can increase systemic exposure
Contraindications
- Rosacea, acne vulgaris, and perioral dermatitis
- Hypersensitivity to the preparation
- Not indicated for infected skin lesions or dermatoses in children under one year of age
Side Effects
- Systemic absorption leading to hypercorticism
- Local atrophic changes in the skin
- Pustular form of psoriasis
- Pigmentation changes and hypertrichosis
Pregnancy & Lactation
Limited data on use during pregnancy, caution during lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid long-term continuous therapy, especially in infants and children
- Atrophic changes on the face after prolonged treatment
- Careful application to eye lids to avoid entry into the eye
- Hazardous in psoriasis for various reasons
- Use of anti-microbial therapy for infected lesions
Use in Special Populations
Avoid long-term therapy in children under 12 years
Overdose Effects
Acute overdosage unlikely, features of hypercortisolism with chronic over-dosage
