Indications

Composition
- Clobetasol Propionate Cream: 0.05% w/w
- Clobetasol Propionate Ointment: 0.05% w/w
- Clobetasol Propionate Scalp Application: 0.05% w/w
- Clobetasol Propionate Shampoo: 0.05% w/w
- Clobetasol Propionate Lotion: 0.05% w/w
- Clobetasol Propionate Spray: 0.05% w/w
Pharmacology
Anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, vasoconstrictive; inhibits late phase allergic reactions, reduces cytokine production
Dosage
- Apply twice daily for adults, elderly, and children over 1 year
- Limit treatment to 2 consecutive weeks
- Maximum weekly dose should not exceed 50 gm/week
- Total dosage of shampoo should not exceed 50 g per week
- Review courses weekly for children
Administration
Route of administration: Cutaneous; appropriate for moist or weeping surfaces (creams) and dry, lichenified, or scaly lesions (ointments)
Interaction
Inhibition of CYP3A4 by co-administered drugs may lead to increased systemic exposure
Contraindications
- Rosacea, acne vulgaris, perioral dermatitis
- Hypersensitivity to the preparation
- Primary cutaneous viral infections
- Dermatoses in children under one year of age
Side Effects
- Hypercorticism with prolonged use of large amounts
- Local atrophic changes in the skin with prolonged and intensive treatment
- Pustular form of psoriasis in rare instances
- Pigmentation changes and hypertrichosis
Pregnancy & Lactation
Limited data in pregnant women, caution during lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid long-term continuous therapy, particularly in infants and children
- Atrophic changes on the face after prolonged treatment
- Care to prevent entry into the eye
- Hazardous in psoriasis for various reasons
- Use appropriate anti-microbial therapy for infected lesions
Use in Special Populations
Avoid long-term continuous therapy in infants and children under 12 years
Overdose Effects
Acute overdosage is unlikely, discontinue in case of chronic over-dosage
