Indications
- Psoriasis (excluding widespread plaque psoriasis)
- Recalcitrant dermatoses
- Lichen planus
- Discoid lupus erythematosus
- Other skin conditions which do not respond satisfactorily to less potent steroids
Composition
- Clobetasol Propionate Cream: 0.05% w/w
- Clobetasol Propionate Ointment: 0.05% w/w
- Clobetasol Propionate Scalp Application: 0.05% w/w
- Clobetasol Propionate Shampoo: 0.05% w/w
- Clobetasol Propionate Lotion: 0.05% w/w
- Clobetasol Propionate Spray: 0.05% w/w
Pharmacology
Potent topical corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive properties
Dosage
- Cream and Ointment: Adults and children over 1 year - apply twice daily
- Spray: Apply once or twice daily to affected scalp areas
- Shampoo: Apply to dry scalp once a day for 15 minutes
- Scalp Solution: Apply once or twice daily to affected scalp areas
Administration
Route of administration: Cutaneous. Creams for moist or weeping surfaces. Ointments for dry, lichenified, or scaly lesions.
Interaction
Co-administered drugs inhibiting CYP3A4 may increase systemic exposure
Contraindications
- Rosacea, acne vulgaris, perioral dermatitis
- Hypersensitivity
- Primary cutaneous viral infections
- Dermatoses in children under one year
Side Effects
- Prolonged use can result in systemic absorption
- Local atrophic changes in the skin
- Pustular form of psoriasis
- Pigmentation changes and hypertrichosis
Pregnancy & Lactation
Limited data in pregnancy; caution in lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid long-term continuous therapy, especially in infants and children
- Atrophic changes on the face after prolonged treatment
- Care needed to prevent entry into the eye
- Hazardous in psoriasis for several reasons

Overdose Effects
Acute overdosage is unlikely, chronic over-dosage may lead to hypercortisolism
