Indications
- Psoriasis
- Chronic atopic dermatitis

Pharmacology
- Clobetasol Propionate - high potency corticosteroid
- Salicylic acid - keratolytic action, antiseptic action, antifungal activity
- Corticosteroids decrease inflammation by stabilizing leukocyte lysosomal membranes
Dosage & Administration
- Apply a thin layer twice daily
- Not recommended for pediatric patients under 12 years of age
- Discontinue if no improvement within 2 weeks
Interaction
- No known interactions with Clobetasol Propionate
- Salicylic acid may increase absorption of other topically applied medicines
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Clobetasol Propionate
- Primary infected bacterial or fungal skin lesions
- Primary cutaneous viral infections
- Dermatoses in children under one year of age
- Salicylate hyersensitivity
Side Effects
- Prolonged use can result in systemic absorption
- Local atrophy may occur after prolonged treatment
- Possible sensitivity reactions and irritation with Salicylic Acid
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Relevance of fetal development abnormalities to human beings not established
- Safe use during lactation not established
- Caution advised during pregnancy and lactation for Clobetasol Propionate
- Safety not established for Salicylic Acid ointment during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with caution on lesions close to the eye
- Avoid contact with broken or inflammed skin
- Salicylate toxicity may occur if applied to large areas of skin
- Risk of acute adrenal suppression with chronic overdosage
Overdose Effects
- Acute overdosage is very unlikely to occur
- Chronic overdosage may lead to features of hypercortisolism
- Systemic salicylate poisoning symptoms reported after application to large areas of skin
