Indications
- Relief of inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid responsive eczema/dermatitis
Pharmacology
- Fluticasone propionate is a glucocorticoid with high topical anti-inflammatory potency
- Low HPA-axis suppressive activity after dermal administration
- High degree of selectivity for the glucocorticoid receptor
- Therapeutic potency related to half-life of glucocorticoid-receptor complex
Dosage & Administration
- Cream: Apply a thin layer once daily
- Ointment: Apply a thin layer twice daily

Contraindications
- Rosacea
- Acne vulgaris
- Perioral dermatitis
- Primary cutaneous viral infections
- Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients
- Perianal and genital pruritus
- Not indicated in the treatment of primarily infected skin lesions caused by fungi or bacteria
- Not indicated for dermatoses in children under one year of age
Side Effects
- Local burning and pruritus
- Local atrophic changes in the skin
- Dilatation of the superficial blood vessels
- Hypertrichosis and hypopigmentation
- Secondary infection
- Allergic contact dermatitis
- Exacerbation of the signs and symptoms of the dermatoses
- Features of hypercorticism with prolonged use of large amounts
- Napkin may act as an occlusive dressing in infants
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Administration during pregnancy should be considered if benefit to the mother is greater than risk to the fetus
- Excretion into human breast milk not investigated
- Therapeutic benefits must be weighed against the potential hazards to the mother and baby when used in breastfeeding mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- Low systemic absorption but prolonged application of high doses to large areas might lead to adrenal suppression
- Children may absorb proportionally larger amounts
- Atropic changes on the face after prolonged treatment with potent topical corticosteroids
- Appropriate antimicrobial therapy should be used for infected inflammatory lesions
- Withdrawal of topical corticosteroid therapy and systemic administration of antimicrobial agents for spread of infection
- Cleansing before applying fresh dressing to avoid bacterial infection
Overdose Effects
- Acute overdosage unlikely
- Chronic overdosage or misuse may lead to hypercorticism features
- Application should be discontinued in case of overdose
