Indications
- Relief of inflammatory manifestations of corticosteroid responsive eczema/dermatitis
Pharmacology
- Glucocorticoid with high topical anti-inflammatory potency
- Low HPA-axis suppressive activity after dermal administration
- High degree of selectivity for the glucocorticoid receptor
- Strong affinity for human glucocorticoid receptors
- Weak affinity for the progesterone receptor
- No/minimal affinity for mineralocorticoid, estrogen, or androgen receptors
- Half-life of glucocorticoid-receptor complex is approximately 10 hours
Dosage & Administration
- Cream: Apply once daily
- Ointment: Apply twice daily

Contraindications
- Not indicated for use in certain skin conditions and infections
- Contraindicated in hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients
- Not indicated for use in children under one year of age
Side Effects
- Local burning and pruritus reported
- Hypersensitivity signs require immediate stop of application
- Prolonged use may cause atrophic changes in the skin
- Secondary infection and allergic contact dermatitis reported with corticosteroid use
- Exacerbation of signs and symptoms of dermatoses reported with corticosteroid use
- Prolonged use may result in systemic absorption causing hypercorticism
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Consideration during pregnancy should be based on benefit-risk assessment
- Excretion into breast milk not investigated
- Therapeutic benefits must be weighed against potential hazards during breastfeeding
Precautions & Warnings
- Low propensity for systemic absorption
- Prolonged high dose application may lead to adrenal suppression
- Children may be more susceptible to systemic toxicity
- Atropic changes may occur on the face with prolonged treatment
- Appropriate antimicrobial therapy should be used for infected lesions
- Withdrawal of corticosteroid therapy and systemic antimicrobial administration required for spread of infection
- Bacterial infection encouraged by occlusive dressing, skin should be cleansed before fresh dressing application
Overdose Effects
- Acute overdose unlikely
- Features of hypercorticism may appear with chronic overdosage or misuse
- Discontinue application in case of overdosage
- Extremely low oral bioavailability
