Indications

• Relief of inflammatory manifestations
• Relief of pruritic manifestations

Pharmacology

• Anti-inflammatory action
• Antipruritic action
• Vasoconstrictive action
• Activates MBP expression via smoothened receptor activation

Dosage & Administration

• 0.1% Halcinonide Cream
• Apply two to three times daily
• Rub in gently

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to components
• Primary infectious ulcers contraindicated
• Acne vulgaris contraindicated

Side Effects

• Epidermal thinning
• Contact dermatitis
• Perioral dermatitis
• Papular disorder
• Mild depigmentation
• Telangiectasia
• Striae (especially face and flexures)
• Raised intraocular pressure
• Cataracts
• Glaucoma
• Corneal ulcers
• Raised intracranial pressure
• Adrenal suppression with systemic absorption

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy Category C
• Teratogenic in laboratory animals
• Potential risk to the fetus
• Use during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies risk

Precautions & Warnings

• Neonates
• Children
• Elderly
• Hepatic failure
• Limit application over large areas
• Caution with broken skin
• Caution during pregnancy
• Caution during lactation

Use in Special Populations

• Pediatric patients have greater susceptibility to HPA axis suppression
• Children may experience Cushing's syndrome
• Intracranial hypertension in children
• Limit amount of topical corticosteroids in children
• Chronic therapy may interfere with growth in children
• No overall differences in safety for elderly patients
• No differences in responses between elderly and younger patients

Overdose Effects

• Topically applied corticosteroids can produce systemic effects
