Description
- A potent topical antibacterial cream with anti-inflammatory & anti-pruritic effects
- Effective against bacterial infections in various skin diseases
- Contains Fusidic Acid and Hydrocortisone Acetate
Indications
- Primary irritant dermatitis
- Contact allergic dermatitis
- Eczema (atopic, infantile, discoid, stasis)
- Seborrhoeic dermatitis
Pharmacology
- Fusidic Acid inhibits protein synthesis in microorganisms
- Hydrocortisone reduces skin response to injury
- Anti-inflammatory & anti-pruritic effects
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: Apply 3 times daily for 2 weeks
- Shorter course if symptoms improve
- Not recommended for children under 3 years of age
Interaction
- Fusidic Acid may inhibit liver metabolism of certain drugs if absorbed systemically
- No hazardous interactions reported with topical Hydrocortisone Acetate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Fusidic Acid or Hydrocortisone Acetate
- Contraindicated in bacterial infections due to non-susceptible organisms, fungal infections, tuberculosis of the skin, syphilitic skin infections, chicken pox, eruptions following vaccinations, viral skin diseases
Side Effects
- Mild irritation at application site
- Rare hypersensitivity reactions
- Local adverse effects: dryness, itching, burning, local irritation, striae, skin atrophy, subcutaneous tissue atrophy, telangiectasia, hypertrichosis, change in pigmentation, secondary infection
- Possible acne rosacea or perioral dermatitis if applied to face
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Safety not established
- Use during pregnancy or lactation should weigh potential benefits against risks to fetus or nursing infant
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid use in or near the eyes
- Avoid occlusive dressing over extensive areas, face, scalp, axillae, scrotum to prevent systemic effects
Use in Special Populations
- No increased adverse effects in children 3 years and over
- Limited data on safety and efficacy for children under 3 years of age
