Description
- Broad spectrum antimycotic
- Anti-inflammatory
- Anti-pruritic
- Anti-allergic effects
- Composed of Econazole Nitrate and Triamcinolone Acetonide
- Powerful antifungal
- Effective against Dermatophytes, Yeasts, Moulds, Fungi, Malassezia furfur, Nocardia minutissima
- Antibacterial effect on gram-positive cocci and bacilli
- Well absorbed from sites of local application
Dosage & Administration
- Applied sparingly to skin lesion
- No more than 2 times daily
- Not applied with occlusive dressing or to large areas of skin on the body
- Duration of treatment not longer than 2 weeks
- Caution in pediatric use due to susceptibility to side effects
Interaction
- Econazole metabolized by CYP3A4/2C9
- Interaction with oral anticoagulants, salicylates, NSAIDs, antidiabetics, amphotericin B, beta-blockers, potassium-depleting diuretics, theophylline, ciclosporin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, barbiturate, rifampicin
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any ingredients
- Specific skin conditions such as tuberculous, varicella, herpes simplex, or other viral infections of the skin
- Decubitus ulcers, Rosacea and rosacea-like dermatitis
Side Effects
- Transient local mild irritation
- Itching & redness immediately after application
- Adrenal suppression on long term continuous topical steroid therapy
- Infant's napkin may act as an occlusive dressing
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Topical administration of corticosteroids during pregnancy can cause abnormalities of fetal development
- Topical steroids in large amounts or for prolonged periods should not be used in pregnancy
- Negligible amount of excretion in breast milk
- Lactation should be withheld during treatment
Precautions & Warnings
- External use only
- Not for ophthalmic or oral use
- Discontinue if hypersensitivity or chemical irritation occurs
- Systemic effects including adrenal suppression may occur
- Associated with skin thinning and atrophy, striae, telangiectasis, and purpura
- Increased risk of dermatological superinfection or opportunistic infection
- Visual disturbance may be associated with systemic and topical corticosteroid use
Overdose Effects
- Corticosteroids applied to the skin can be absorbed in sufficient amounts to produce systemic effects
- Treat symptomatically in case of accidental ingestion
- Accidental application to the eyes should be washed with clean water or saline
