Description
- Broad spectrum antimycotic
- Anti-inflammatory
- Anti-pruritic
- Anti-allergic effects
- Composed of Econazole Nitrate & Triamcinolone Acetonide
- Targets mixed infections of gram-positive and fungus
- Econazole's range of action covers various pathogens
- Triamcinolone inhibits inflammatory process
- Econazole slightly absorbed from skin
Dosage & Administration
- Apply sparingly no more than 2 times daily
- Preferably once in the morning and once in the evening
- Not to be applied with occlusive dressing
- Not for large areas of skin on the body
- Continue treatment until inflammatory symptoms subside but not longer than 2 weeks for adults
- Caution for pediatric use
Interaction
- Econazole metabolized by CYP3A4/2C9
- Interacts with oral anticoagulants
- Triamcinolone causes lowering of plasma salicylates levels
- Increased risk of GI bleeding and ulceration with NSAIDs
- Antagonizes blood glucose-lowering effects of antidiabetics
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients
- Contraindicated in specific skin conditions such as tuberculous, varicella, herpes simplex, or other viral infections of the skin
- Contraindicated in decubitus ulcers, rosacea and rosacea-like dermatitis
Side Effects
- Transient local mild irritation
- Itching & redness may occur immediately after application
- Adrenal suppression on long term continuous topical steroid therapy
- Infant susceptibility to topical corticosteroid-induced HPA axis suppression and Cushing's syndrome
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Triamcinolone crosses the placenta
- Topical corticosteroids during pregnancy can cause abnormalities of fetal development
- Topical steroids in large amounts or for prolonged periods should not be used in pregnancy
- Negligible excretion in breast milk
- Lactation should be withheld during treatment
Precautions & Warnings
- External use only
- Hypersensitivity reaction should lead to discontinuation of medication
- Systemic effects incl. adrenal suppression may occur
- Associated with skin thinning and atrophy, striae, telangiectasis, and purpura
- May lead to increased risk of dermatological superinfection or opportunistic infection
- Increased caution required for children
- Visual disturbances may be associated with corticosteroid use
Overdose Effects
- For cutaneous application only
- Accidental ingestion may produce systemic effects
- If accidentally applied to the eyes, wash with clean water or saline and seek medical attention if symptoms persist
