Indications
- Symptomatic treatment of chronic stable angina pectoris in coronary artery disease patients
- Indicated in patients unable to tolerate or with a contra-indication to beta-blockers
- Can be used in combination with beta-blockers
- Helps control heart rate and cardiac workload
Pharmacology
- Pure heart rate lowering agent
- Inhibits cardiac pacemaker I f current
- Regulates heart rate by decreasing spontaneous diastolic depolarization
- Reduces cardiac workload and oxygen consumption
Dosage & Administration
- Usual starting dose of 5 mg twice daily
- Can be increased to 7.5 mg twice daily based on response
- Specific dosing recommendations for elderly, renal insufficiency, and hepatic impairment
- Not recommended for children and adolescents
Interaction
- Avoid concomitant use with QT wave prolonging medicinal products
- Close cardiac monitoring needed if combination is necessary
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ivabradine or excipients
- Resting heart rate below 60 bpm
- Severe cardiovascular conditions
