Regain 2% (Scalp Solution)

Indications

• Treatment of androgenic alopecia in males and females
• Stabilisation of hair loss in patients with androgenic alopecia
• Treatment of alopecia areata

Pharmacology

• Minoxidil stimulates hair growth by increasing oxygen, blood and nutrients supply to the hair follicle
• Absorption rate through the skin affects serum Minoxidil levels and systemic effects
• About 1.4% of the total applied dose is absorbed from the normal intact scalp

Dosage & Administration

• Topical solution for external use only
• Apply 1 ml (7 sprays) twice daily at 12-hour intervals
• Allow to remain on the scalp for about 4 hours before washing

Interaction

• Should not be used with other topical agents known to alter the stratum corneum barrier

Contraindications

• Patients with cardiac abnormalities
• Children below 18 years of age
• Patients using occlusive dressings or other medicines on the scalp
• Patients with red, inflamed, infected, or irritated scalp

Side Effects

• Minor dermatological reactions
• Dermatitis or hypertrichosis may occur in 0.1–5% of patients

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Should not be used during pregnancy and lactation

Precautions & Warnings

• More likely to cause scalp irritation
• Stop use if scalp irritation continues or worsens

Overdose Effects

• Increased systemic absorption may occur if higher-than-recommended doses are applied to larger surface areas or areas other than the scalp
• Signs and symptoms would primarily be cardiovascular effects associated with sodium and water retention
• No known cases of overdosage resulting from topical administration
