Indications
- Treatment of androgenic alopecia in males and females
- Stabilisation of hair loss in patients with androgenic alopecia
- Treatment of alopecia areata
Pharmacology
- Stimulates hair growth
- Increases oxygen, blood and nutrients supply to the hair follicle
- Widens blood vessels
- Inhibits androgen hormone affecting hair follicles
- Absorption rate through the skin
- Metabolites excreted in urine
Dosage & Administration
- For external use only
- Applied to clean and dry hair and scalp
- Apply 1 ml (7 sprays) twice daily
- Allow to remain on the scalp for about 4 hours before washing
- Not to be massaged into the scalp
- Not mixed with any hair oil
- Not used more than two times a day
- Hands should be washed immediately if applied with the fingertips
- Clinical experience suggests 4 months or more may be required for evidence of hair growth
- Use for not less than 45 days to arrest hair fall
Interaction
- Not to be used with topical agents altering the stratum corneum barrier
- Potential of potentiating orthostatic hypotension
Contraindications
- Patients with cardiac abnormalities
- Children below 18 years of age
- Patients using occlusive dressings or other medicines on the scalp
- Patients with red, inflamed infection, or irritated or painful scalp
Side Effects
- Minor dermatological reactions
- Dermatitis or hypertrichosis
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not to be used during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- More likely to cause scalp irritation
- If scalp irritation continues or worsens, use should be stopped
Overdose Effects
- Increased systemic absorption
- Signs and symptoms may include cardiovascular effects, fluid retention, and tachycardia
- Fluid retention can be managed with appropriate diuretic therapy
- Tachycardia can be controlled by administration of a beta-adrenergic blocking agent
