Primary Function
- Adjunct to systemic therapy for topical infections

Usability Features
- Applicable to adults and children over 6 years of age
- Contraindicated in children under 2 years of age

Composition
- Povidone Iodine complex with organic polymer
Technical Specifications
- Broad spectrum microbicidal activity against bacteria, protozoa, viruses, and fungi/yeasts
- Sporicidal activity
- Non-staining and active in the presence of blood, serum, pus, and water
Dosage and Administration
- Apply once or twice daily for a maximum of 14 days (cream/ointment)
- Apply full strength as needed (solution)
- Gargle or rinse with up to 10 mL for up to 30 seconds without swallowing (gargle & mouthwash)
- Apply a light dusting of powder to the affected area, or as advised by the registered physician (powder)
- Instill 1 drop 4 times daily into the conjunctival sac (ophthalmic solution)
Pharmacological Action
- Forms complex of iodine and povidone
- Prolongs germicidal activity of iodine
- Rapid microbicidal activity against various microorganisms
- Exhibits sporicidal activity
Interaction
- Can interact with strong alkali, sodium thiosulphate, and sodium metabisulphite
- May exhibit hypothyroidic effect with concurrent lithium therapy
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity reactions
- Avoid regular use in patients with thyroid disorders or receiving lithium therapy
- Assess serum iodide levels in severely burnt patients
Side Effects
- Hypersensitivity reactions
- Skin and mucous membrane irritation
- Potential systemic adverse effects with application to severe burns or large denuded areas
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended for use during pregnancy due to potential fetal thyroid effects
- Usually compatible with breastfeeding (consult physician)
Precautions & Warnings
- Special caution with deep wounds, puncture wounds, and serious burns
- Avoid prolonged use in certain conditions and age groups
- Take precautions when using on known iodine sensitivity
- Do not wear contact lenses during instillation of the ophthalmic solution
