Dosage & Administration

  • Cream or ointment: Apply once or twice daily for a maximum of 14 days
  • Solution: Apply full strength as often as needed as paint, spray, or wet soak
  • Gargle & Mouthwash: Use undiluted or diluted with an equal volume of warm water, gargle or rinse up to 10mL for up to 30 seconds without swallowing, repeat up to four times daily
  • Surgical Scrub: Wet hands and forearms, apply 5mL and spread, rub thoroughly for about five minutes, rinse thoroughly under running water
  • Powder: Apply a light dusting of powder to the affected area, or use as advised by the Registered Physician
  • Ophthalmic Solution: 1 drop 4 times daily or as required

Interaction

  • Exhibits interaction with strong alkali, sodium thiosulphate, sodium metabisulphite, and thiomersal
  • Concurrent lithium therapy may exhibit hypothyroidic effect

Contraindications

  • Avoid regular use in patients with thyroid disorders or receiving lithium therapy
  • Assess serum iodide levels in severely burnt patients

Pregnancy & Lactation

Precautions & Warnings

  • Consult Registered Physician for deep wounds, puncture wounds, or serious burns
  • Avoid pooling of the solution beneath the patient during preoperative prepping
  • Special caution for patients with pre-existing renal insufficiency
  • Care must be taken when used on known iodine sensitivity
  • Patients experiencing blurred vision should not drive or use machinery after applying the eye drops
