Usability Features

Dosage & Administration
- Cream or ointment: Apply once or twice daily for a maximum of 14 days
- Solution: Apply full strength as often as needed as paint, spray, or wet soak
- Gargle & Mouthwash: Use undiluted or diluted with an equal volume of warm water, gargle or rinse up to 10mL for up to 30 seconds without swallowing, repeat up to four times daily
- Surgical Scrub: Wet hands and forearms, apply 5mL and spread, rub thoroughly for about five minutes, rinse thoroughly under running water
- Powder: Apply a light dusting of powder to the affected area, or use as advised by the Registered Physician
- Ophthalmic Solution: 1 drop 4 times daily or as required
Interaction
- Exhibits interaction with strong alkali, sodium thiosulphate, sodium metabisulphite, and thiomersal
- Concurrent lithium therapy may exhibit hypothyroidic effect
Contraindications
- Avoid regular use in patients with thyroid disorders or receiving lithium therapy
- Assess serum iodide levels in severely burnt patients
Side Effects
- Hypersensitivity reactions
- Irritation of the skin and mucous membranes
- Systemic adverse effects for severe burns or large denuded areas
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended for use during pregnancy
- Considered compatible with breastfeeding by the American Academy of Pediatrics

Precautions & Warnings
- Consult Registered Physician for deep wounds, puncture wounds, or serious burns
- Avoid pooling of the solution beneath the patient during preoperative prepping
- Special caution for patients with pre-existing renal insufficiency
- Care must be taken when used on known iodine sensitivity
- Patients experiencing blurred vision should not drive or use machinery after applying the eye drops
