Hypersensitivity reactions
Avoid regular use in patients with thyroid disorders or those receiving lithium therapy
Assess serum iodide levels in severely burnt patients
Avoid use in serious cavities and in children under the age of 2 years

Irritation of the skin and mucous membranes
May produce systemic adverse effects when applied to severe burns or large denuded areas of the skin
May interfere with thyroid function tests

Not recommended for use during pregnancy
Considered compatible with breastfeeding by the American Academy of Pediatrics
Use should be avoided in pregnant and lactating women for gargle & mouthwash and surgical scrub
Administration during pregnancy and lactation is not recommended for eye drops

Consult Registered Physician for deep or puncture wounds, serious burns, or persistent redness, irritation, swelling, or pain
Avoid pooling beneath the patient during preoperative prepping
Prolonged exposure to wet solution may cause irritation or severe skin reactions
Regular use should be avoided as prolonged use may lead to iodine absorption
Special caution is needed when applying to broken skin in patients with pre-existing renal insufficiency
Care must be taken when used on known iodine sensitivity
