Indications

  • Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis

Pharmacology

  • Long-acting
  • Non-sedative antagonist of histamine H1-receptors
  • Antagonizes platelet activating factor (PAF)
  • Inhibits degranulation of mast cells
  • Inhibits release of cytokines

Dosage & Administration

  • Recommended adult dose: 10 mg once a day
  • Can be taken with or without food
  • Dosing for children based on weight

Interaction

  • Increased systemic exposure with ketoconazole or erythromycin
  • Caution with statins, CNS depressants, or alcohol
  • Avoid concomitant use with grapefruit or grapefruit juice

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Rupatadine or excipients

  • Common: Asthenia, dizziness, drowsiness
  • Uncommon: Appetite increased, arthralgia, back pain, diarrhea, nasal dryness
