Indications
- Symptomatic treatment of Seasonal & Perennial Allergic Rhinitis
- Symptomatic treatment of Urticaria
Pharmacology
- Long-acting non-sedative antagonist of histamine H1-receptors
- Antagonizes platelet activating factor (PAF)
- Inhibition of mast cell degranulation
- Inhibition of release of cytokines
Dosage & Administration
- Adults and adolescents (over 12 years): 10 mg once a day
- Children aged 2 to 11 years: 1-5 ml oral solution once daily based on weight
Interaction
- Increased systemic exposure with ketoconazole or erythromycin
- Caution with statins, CNS depressants, or alcohol
- Avoid concurrent use with grapefruit or grapefruit juice
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Rupatadine or excipients
Side Effects
- Common: asthenia, dizziness, drowsiness
- Uncommon: appetite increased, arthralgia, back pain
- Rare: palpitations, tachycardia
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended during pregnancy and lactation without outweighing potential benefits
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in patients with known prolongation of QT interval
- Caution in elderly patients (65 years and older)
- Not recommended in patients with impaired kidney or liver function
Use in Special Populations
- Elderly: caution required
- Children: safety and efficacy not established for < 12 years
- Patients with renal or hepatic insufficiency: not recommended
