Indications
- Symptomatic treatment of Seasonal & Perennial Allergic Rhinitis
- Symptomatic treatment of Urticaria
Pharmacology
- Long-acting non-sedative antagonist of histamine H1-receptors
- Antagonizes platelet activating factor (PAF)
- Inhibits degranulation of mast cells
- Inhibition of release of cytokines
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dose for adults and adolescents (over 12 years) is 10 mg once a day
- Can be taken with or without food
- Specific doses for children based on weight
Interaction
- Increased systemic exposure with concomitant administration of ketoconazole or erythromycin
- Caution required when co-administered with statins, CNS depressants or alcohol
- Grapefruit and Grapefruit juice should not be taken simultaneously
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Rupatadine or any of the excipients

- Not recommended in patients with impaired kidney or liver function
Overdose Effects
- Most common adverse reaction is somnolence
- Symptomatic treatment together with required supportive measures should be given in case of accidental ingestion of very high doses
Use in Special Populations
- Use with caution in elderly
- Neither safety nor efficacy established in patients less than 12 years of age
- Not recommended in patients with renal or hepatic insufficiency
