Indications

  • Symptomatic treatment of Seasonal & Perennial Allergic Rhinitis
  • Symptomatic treatment of Urticaria

Pharmacology

  • Long-acting non-sedative antagonist of histamine H1-receptors
  • Antagonizes platelet activating factor (PAF)
  • Inhibits degranulation of mast cells
  • Inhibition of release of cytokines

Dosage & Administration

  • Recommended dose for adults and adolescents (over 12 years) is 10 mg once a day
  • Can be taken with or without food
  • Specific doses for children based on weight

Interaction

  • Increased systemic exposure with concomitant administration of ketoconazole or erythromycin
  • Caution required when co-administered with statins, CNS depressants or alcohol
  • Grapefruit and Grapefruit juice should not be taken simultaneously

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Rupatadine or any of the excipients

  • Symptomatic treatment together with required supportive measures should be given in case of accidental ingestion of very high doses

Use in Special Populations

  • Use with caution in elderly
  • Neither safety nor efficacy established in patients less than 12 years of age
  • Not recommended in patients with renal or hepatic insufficiency
