Indications
- Seasonal & Perennial Allergic Rhinitis
- Urticaria
Pharmacology
- Long-acting non-sedative histamine H1-receptors antagonist
- Antagonizes platelet activating factor (PAF)
- Inhibition of mast cell degranulation
- Inhibition of cytokine release
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dose: 10 mg once a day
- Children aged 2 to 11 years: Dosage based on weight
Interactions
- Ketoconazole and erythromycin increase systemic exposure
- Caution with statins, CNS depressants, and alcohol
- Avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Rupatadine or excipients
Side Effects
- Common: Asthenia, dizziness, drowsiness
- Uncommon: Appetite increased, back pain, diarrhea, dry throat, nausea
- Rare: Palpitations, tachycardia
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in patients with prolongation of the QT interval
- Caution in elderly patients
- Not recommended in patients with impaired kidney or liver function
