Description
- Telfadin is an antihistamine indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria in adults and children 12 years of age and over.
DosageOptions
- 60 mg twice daily
- 120 mg once daily
- 180 mg once daily
- 30 mg twice daily
- 30 mg or 5 ml twice daily
- 15 mg or 2.5 ml (1/2 tsp) twice daily
Indications
- Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis
- Relief of symptoms associated with chronic idiopathic urticaria
InteractionWithMedication
- Increases level of fexofenadine in plasma when coadministered with erythromycin or ketoconazole
- No interaction between fexofenadine and omeprazole observed
- Reduction in bioavailability when administered with antacids containing aluminium and magnesium hydroxide
Pharmacology
- Fexofenadine is considered an inverse agonist of the H1 receptor
- Potent and selective affinity for H1 receptors
- Does not cross the blood-brain barrier
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Fexofenadine Hydrochloride or any of its ingredients

- Hypersensitivity reactions with manifestations such as angioedema, chest tightness, and dyspnoea
- Tachycardia
- Diarrhea
- Rash
- Urticaria
PregnancyAndLactation
- No adequate data from the use of Fexofenadine hydrochloride in pregnant women
- Fexofenadine hydrochloride is not recommended for mothers breast-feeding their babies
Precautions
- Administered with care in older people and renally or hepatically impaired patients
- Patients with a history of or ongoing cardiovascular disease should be warned about adverse reactions

- Pharmacokinetics altered in individuals with renal impairment
- Adverse events similar in elderly patients compared to patients under 65 years of age

- Dry mouth
- Single doses up to 800 mg administered to healthy subjects without clinically significant adverse reactions
- Haemodialysis does not effectively remove Telfadin from blood
