Indications
- Scabies
- Pediculosis pubis
- Pediculosis capitis
Pharmacology
- Used in the treatment of ectoparasites
- Toxic to sarcoptes scabiei and pediculosis
- Kills sarcoptes mite in 5 minutes
- Mechanism of action is unclear
- Thought to act on the nervous system of the parasite
Dosage & Administration
- Applied to the whole body for scabies
- Can be repeated within 5 days
- Can be applied on three occasions at 12 hourly intervals for Scabies
- Coated on the affected region for Pediculosis
- Washed with soap and water 24 hours later for Pediculosis
- Can be diluted for use in children

- No hazardous interactions reported
Contraindications
- Should not be used on the face
- Should not be used on broken or irritated skin
Side Effects
- Irritant to eyes and mucous membrane
- May be irritant to the skin
- Hypersensitivity reactions reported
- Systemic symptoms reported following excessive use
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Inadequate evidence of safety in human pregnancy
- Should be avoided during pregnancy unless considered essential
- Breastfeeding should be suspended during treatment
Precautions & Warnings
- Causes little skin irritation
- May cause a transient burning sensation
- Should be washed off in case of severe skin reaction
- Irritating to the eyes
