Description
Fusitop-HC Cream is indicated for various skin diseases where bacterial infections are present or suspected. It contains Fusidic Acid BP 2% & Hydrocortisone Acetate BP 1% for antibacterial, anti-inflammatory & anti-pruritic effects. It should be applied 3 times daily on affected areas in adults for 2 weeks. Not recommended for children under 3 years. Also, precautions should be taken to avoid conjunctival irritation and systemic effects. Storage should be below 30°C, away from light and moisture.
Indications
- Primary irritant dermatitis
- Contact allergic dermatitis
- Eczema (atopic, infantile, discoid, stasis)
- Seborrhoeic dermatitis
Pharmacology
- Potent antibacterial action of Fusidic Acid
- Anti-inflammatory & anti-pruritic effects of Hydrocortisone Acetate
- Inhibition of protein synthesis
- Reduction of skin response to injury
- Immunosuppressant & anti-mitotic actions
Dosage & Administration
- Applied 3 times daily for 2 weeks in adults
- Not recommended in children under 3 years
Interaction
- May inhibit metabolism of certain drugs if absorbed systemically
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Fusidic Acid or Hydrocortisone Acetate
- Contraindicated in infections due to non-susceptible organisms, fungal infections, tuberculosis of the skin, syphilitic skin infections, chicken pox, eruptions following vaccinations, viral skin diseases
Side Effects
- Mild irritation at application site
- Rare hypersensitivity reactions
- Local adverse effects: dryness, itching, burning, local irritation, striae, skin atrophy, telangiectasia, hypertrichosis, change in pigmentation, secondary infection
- Possible occurrence of acne rosacea or perioral dermatitis if applied to face
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Safety not established during pregnancy or lactation
- Benefit-risk assessment required for use during pregnancy or lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid use near the eye
- Risk of conjunctival irritation and systemic effects if used under occlusive dressing, over extensive areas, on specific body parts
Use in Special Populations
- No increased adverse effects in children 3 years and over
- Insufficient data for safety and efficacy in children under 3 years
